Academy Managing Director Susie Wolff has shared her admiration for Lewis Hamilton as he prepares to move from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025. After a record 12 years with Mercedes, Hamilton is set to make the high-profile move, and Wolff believes it will be an unforgettable moment to see the seven-time world champion in Ferrari’s famous red suit.

Hamilton, widely considered one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, has accumulated seven world titles and an unprecedented 105 victories since his debut in 2007. Beyond the track, he is known for his vocal advocacy on social issues, including racism and equality, further cementing his legacy in sport.

Wolff, reflecting on Hamilton’s determination and work ethic, praised him for his relentless pursuit of excellence. She expressed a mix of emotions regarding her departure from Mercedes, but stressed the importance of Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari.

“I remember even at the age of 8 how exceptional he was,” Wolff said. “He is often seen from afar… But he works incredibly hard off the track in all aspects of his life. As much as I am sad in a way that he is ending his time with Mercedes, I think it will be an iconic moment to see Lewis in a Ferrari racing suit next season.”

Despite a difficult 2024 season for Hamilton, he scored emotional victories at Spa and Silverstone. The 39-year-old driver hopes to end his time at Mercedes on a positive note before beginning this historic new chapter with Ferrari.

Hamilton also expressed concerns about the rising costs of a career in motorsport. He revealed that the price of entry into Formula 1 has exploded since he started, making it almost impossible for many talented young drivers to afford the route.

“It’s just incredibly expensive. I don’t know how much it costs today, but I heard it’s two or three times, four times more than when I started. If I hadn’t been signed by Mercedes and McLaren, I wouldn’t be here today,” Hamilton said, emphasizing the need for subsidies to make the sport more accessible to future generations.

As Hamilton prepares to make the monumental move to Ferrari, fans and pundits alike are eager to witness this new chapter in his legendary career, which could further cement his status as a Formula 1 legend.
