Roller | The double betrayal of the French women at the World Championships

The World Roller Road Championships were held in Italy this year. Well, the World Skate Games for the purists among you. For the occasion, had the opportunity to limit itself to the places of honor in these Worlds. But this year 2024 is decidedly very dark in many aspects.

French rollerblading goes dark

The World Championships begin, and Marine Lefeuvre quickly collects two bronze medals in the 10km elimination track and the American relay. A state of form that worries us somewhat, but which reassures us on one point: the glass ceiling of French rollers is still relevant at the World Championships. But what we don’t know is that the Mayenne native does not intend to stop there. And it is at this precise moment that our worries appear.

After several falls during the World Championships last year, Marine Lefeuvre definitely wants to turn the page. And what better way to do that than with the 15km senior elimination race? We would all have thought of the same race. The laps fly by, and the 27-year-old from Castromonté seems to be a bit too fit.

Then at the start of the last lap, the Ecuadorian Vargas launched an incisive attack. Only the French skater managed to follow her, but she took care to find herself second before the last turn. Then Marine committed the irreparable; she went inside her in the last turn and crossed the finish line in the lead. Marine Lefeuvre was world champion for the first time in her career, and put an end to 23 years of French drought in this event. There were too many betrayals to digest in a single race.

If the Mayenne native did not take the blow with Marine Lefeuvre, Marie Dupuy also added a French bronze medal to this race. The chalice to the dregs.
