Paul Lapeira (24 years old), one of the revelations of last season on the French side, extended his contract with the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team until 2027. Initially, the reigning French champion was linked to the most successful French training in 2024 until 2025.

As for all his colleagues in the peloton, Paul Lapeira’s season has not yet resumed (Editor’s note: It will start on January 21 during the Tour Down Under). The young 24-year-old French puncher has already made an impression in his own way and his Décathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team has struck hard once again on the momentum of a last rather exceptional exercise for the French team. While Lapeira’s contract only ran until 2025, the Savoyard team in fact convinced the revelation of last season, officially extended on January 1, to re-apply for a new lease. The French champion last June on his land of Saint-Martin-de-Landelles has signed a new two-year contract which now binds him to Décathlon-AG2R-La Mondiale until 2027. A big blow for the team who broke the screen in 2024 by totaling 30 victories and 70 podiums – which earned him a 6th place finish in the world ranking – as for the new nugget of French cycling, who did not imagine, to hear it, leaving the colors under which it revealed itself, first at Chambéry CF, the training center of the team dear to Vincent Lavenu, then among the professionals since 2022, certain of being able to take its colors to another milestone.

Objective ? Keep the French champion jersey and win “big races”

“It’s a renewal that happened naturally,” explains the Norman in the press release published by Décathlon-AG2R La Mondiale. “I did all my training within the team’s sector, and with great progression at stake, this encourages me to continue this momentum (…) I think I am in the right place to continue to progress over the next three years and bring the team the best possible results”, declared in a communicated the Norman who had discovered the Tour de the last season. However, he will not participate in the Grande Boucle this year. His team announced on the sidelines of Lapeira’s extension that the season of the latter, who dreams of keeping his blue, white, red jersey and “winning big races – would essentially be structured around the classics.
