It's the final touch on line 14, the automatic metro that connects Saint-Denis-Pleyel, in the north of Paris, to Orly airport in the south. The Villejuif-Gustave-Roussy metro station, which serves the renowned Val-de-Marne cancer center, opened its doors on Saturday January 18. Valérie Pécresse, president (Les Républicains) of the Ile-de-France region, receives this exceptional and crucial work for Ile-de-France transport, financed by the Société des Grands Projets (formerly Société du Grand Paris).
At the bottom of this cylinder-shaped station buried underground, the future line 15 of Grand Paris intersects, at a depth of 50 meters, and line 14, at 37 meters. Architect Dominique Perrault brought natural light downstairs. “There are lots of great stations, this one is exceptional”he says, welcoming the power of cooperation between design and engineering.
For Valérie Pécresse, Villejuif-Gustave-Roussy has an additional dimension: “We are finally seeing the realization of the vision carried by Ile-de-France Mobilités [IDFM, l’autorité organisatrice des transports, qu’elle préside aussi]by the region and by the State, explains the president of Ile-de-France, elected in 2015 then re-elected in 2021. Transport time is a long time. » IDFM does not finance the stations but all the metros and trains which run on the Ile-de-France lines, and in particular on this line 14 operated by the RATP.
