La Rochelle town hall installed 14 “stop” signs over a distance of 500 meters for an experiment. The local residents don't really appreciate it.
Fourteen panels over just 500 meters. La Rochelle town hall has installed this device on part of avenue de Fétilly since the start of the school year, relays BFM. The aim is to reduce traffic speed.
“Permanent embarrassment”
The experiment is expected to last six months. Local residents find the measure a little “excessive”. “It’s a permanent nuisance, it slows down and it clutters the avenue,” reports BFM.
The town hall is pleased with the first positive effects. “The rated speed has really dropped, underlines Christophe Berthaud, deputy mayor of La Rochelle on the continuous news channel. This reassures many residents who travel, particularly by bike or with their families.”
Upcoming public meeting
A public meeting will be held in March to decide the future of these 14 “stop” signs.
A similar installation had been set up in Normandy. Ten “stop” signs had been installed over 200 meters. Eight out of the ten had been stolen.
