Still injured in his ribs, Mathieu van der Poel will not be at the start of the CDM in Dendermonde, where he was due to face Wout van Aert.
The second duel of the winter will await between Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. Injured in the ribs since a fall in Loenhout, the world champion is not sufficiently recovered to take the start of the World Cup in Dendermonde this Sunday, where he was to meet his best enemy. As planned, the leader of Alpecin-Deceuninck will go to Spain for an internship. Later this month he is expected to compete in the World Cup races in Maasmechelen and Hoogerheide before attempting to secure his seventh world title in Liévin in early February. For now, the rest of his cyclocross schedule remains unchanged.
Mathieu van der Poel:
“There is no point in waiting any longer. I did another test today and it is clear that Dendermonde is coming too early. On more difficult terrain, I still feel too much pain in my ribs. I have no choice but to remain patient.”
