Florian Rousseau affirmed on the sidelines of the French track Cycling championships that he was a candidate for the position of DTN, which will be vacated by Christophe Manin during the year 2025. After the zero points of the French sprint at Paris 2024 , Anthony Baré was appointed to restart the machine.
The post-Paris 2024 period is underway for French cycling. While Michel Callot was re-elected at the head of the French Cycling Federation (FFC) last December, the major maneuvers are beginning to launch preparations for Los Angeles 2028. While Christophe Manin will soon leave his position as National Technical Director ( DTN) to “carry out another mission within the Ministry of Sports”, the race for his succession was launched this Friday on the sidelines of the French track cycling championships, organized in Loudéac. After having overseen the Olympic program for the last three years, Florian Rousseau has confirmed his desire to become the next DTN. A decision that the former Olympic champion justified by “the experience stored during (his) professional life, and not only in cycling” in comments collected by the daily The Team. Indeed, the former track rider has notably taken his place in the past in the organizational chart of INSEP and the French Athletics Federation (FFA). “The subjects are broader than high performance, they are fascinating subjects,” he added. A decision on the name of Christophe Manin's successor, however, is not expected before the second quarter of 2025. At the same time, the FFC announced movement in the organization of the French track cycling teams after an assessment far from being exceptional on the occasion of the Olympic Games.
Baré named to relaunch the French sprint
In charge of the sprint, Grégory Baugé has left his functions but these will not be put in the hands of a single man. Indeed, the federation announced this Friday that it was trusting Anthony Baré, who was previously an analyst in charge of performance, to take charge of the Olympic sprint pole, based at the Vélodrome National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. The FFC also intends to soon appoint a national coach, who will be in charge of the selection of the French teams during the cycle leading to the next Olympic Games. Concerning this new organization, Anthony Baré confided in comments collected by the daily The Team that there will be “two very different entities which are the French Olympic sprint pole, in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines”, where he will have the role of coach, but also “the French team on the other hand” . “The reservoir of runners that we will have in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines will help supply the French team,” he added. My role will be to help the athletes from the France pole to perform, to meet the selection criteria of the French team to make these colors of the French team shine. » After the zero points of the French sprint during Paris 2024, the objective seems ready for the four years to come.
