The general assembly of the Martinique Regional Cyclist Committee, held this Friday evening at the Martinique Institute of Sport, marked a turning point for local Cycling. Patrick Noreskal, former first vice-president of the committee, was elected head of the body, succeeding Alfred Defontis, a key figure in Martinican cycling.
The election took place in an emotional atmosphere, as Alfred Defontis, after leading the committee for several years, officially handed over to his successor. The latter, with his 25 years of experience as first vice-president, knows the challenges of local cycling well and promised to continue the work accomplished while bringing his own vision for the development of the discipline in Martinique.
If all the reports have been voted on, the need to “ professionalize » the regional committee in its administrative logistics management was singled out once again by the auditor.
The 2025 season will kick off on the first weekend of January with a forecast budget of just over 898,000 euros for mountain biking and road cycling.
Alfred Defontis: an active retirement
Although Patrick Noreskal takes the reins of the regional committee, Alfred Defontis is not necessarily looking towards retirement. He will remain a member of the Regional Cycling Committee and was also re-elected to the Federal Council of the French Cycling Federation. He will continue his commitment at the international level, notably within the Pan American Cycling Confederation.
