A curious explanation for a bizarre celebration. During Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday, September 14, Victor Boniface made headlines after scoring the first of his two goals of the day. In front of his supporters, half an hour into the game, the Nigerian striker pulled down his shorts and pretended to masturbate.
“I didn’t want to provoke anyone, I did it in front of our fans. It’s a Tiktok trend from a big influencer in Nigeria. I promised him to celebrate it like that, but I hadn’t scored yet!”, explained Victor Boniface after the match, according to the comments reported by Bayer Leverkusen.
On his Instagram account, Victor Boniface supported this explanation by sharing a video from an influencer named The Trench Boy. This clip of a few seconds shows a dance and refers to a “challenge”.
Victor Boniface actually imitated this dance… but after his second goal, scored in the 75th minute. A double that he celebrated in front of the opposing supporters and not those of Bayer Leverkusen, unlike the obscene celebration of the first goal.
