It is from Piedmont, at the foot of the mountains and with the Alps in the background, that The Return 2025, a special edition to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the race. The Italian region will host the first three stages in their entirety from August 23, before the peloton returns to Spain. The news was made official this Monday during a ceremony organized in Turin in the presence of Mr. Stefano Lo Russomayor of Turin; Alberto Ciriopresident of the Piedmont region; Marina Chiarelliadvisor for tourism, culture and sport of the Piedmont region and Javier Guilléngeneral director of The Return.

The inaugural stage of The Return 2025 will start from Torino – Reggia di Venaria to reach Novara on a 183 kilometer route promised to sprinters. The second stage will start from Alba and, after 157 kilometers, will end in Limone Piemonte with the first altitude finish of this edition where the favorites of the general classification could test themselves. The third stage in Italian territory will cover 139 kilometers between San Maurizio Canavese and Ceres, with a climb of the Issiglio pass, which will offer the adventurers a first opportunity to outstrip the peloton. Finally, the fourth stage will start from Susa.
6th departure abroad in history
The departure of The Return from Piedmont, where mountains, history and beauty of the landscapes combine, extends the list of major international cities visited by the Spanish race and further strengthens the links between the major countries of European cycling. During its nine decades of history, The Return visited most of the countries with a particular attachment to cycling, such as France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Italy has marked the history of The Return : Italian riders have won 187 stages, making Italy the third nation in terms of stage victories, after Spain and Belgium. Six Italian cyclists also won the general classification: Fabio Aru (2015), Vincenzo Nibali (2010), Marco Giovannetti (1990), Giovanni Battaglin (1981), Felice Gimondi (1968) et Angelo Conterno (1956).
In recent years, the Piedmont region has also played a key role in international cycling. In particular, Turin, its capital, which welcomed the arrival of the third stage of the Tour de France 2024, where the Eritrean Biniam Girmay triumphed. The 2025 departure will be the sixth from abroad after Lisbon (1997), Assen (2009), Nîmes (2017), Utrecht (2022) and Lisbon, Oeiras y Cascais (2024).
