Like every morning, Catherine mechanically reads the headlines of -Morningcoffee on her lips, when she comes across the sad story of Corinne Duriez.

Unpaid rent since 2021 due to his poor health, the ex-artist had plunged into depression until the fateful day, which occurred last Friday. “The police came to evict me from the shopping mall in which I had lived for thirteen years. The officers brutally threw my belongings into my car, before taking me to the CCAS (Communal Social Action Center) in she says, still shaken. I had almost nothing on me, just a pair of ballet flats on my feet and a little wool to cover me.”

At the same time, Catherine is busy in her apartment located in Juan-les-Pins: “I was touched by the testimony of this woman who looks a little like me: almost the same age, similar back problems… I told myself that I had to do something.”

A renewed vigor

This former home help – for more than 20 years president of the now dissolved social association Réseau – immediately called the CCAS to offer her 35m² free of charge for shared accommodation. An incredible opportunity for Corinne, who, in the immediate future, is not offered anything satisfactory. “I saw her, sitting on the bench in front of the apartmentremembers Catherine. It was in really bad shape. The first two days weren’t easy.”

But in the meantime, the fog (bad mix of alcohol and pills) in which the sixty-year-old is immersed fades. His eyes sparkle again and his slowness gives way to surprising responsiveness. “Even though I still have a long way to go, I feel alive again”smiled Corinne, getting up from the sofa with one hand and several times to prove her rapid progress. “I no longer have the lump in my stomach, and my body hurts less, because my tensions and tightness have reduced a lot.”

Soon your own home?

“Corinne can stay long enough to find another home for her”promises her new roommate. Who adds, like a mantra: “When I commit, I commit to the end.”

An appointment is planned for this Wednesday to, perhaps, allow him to move into the Orangers autonomy residence, in Vallauris. “It’ll be OK”she now wants to believe.
