Newcastle Crown Court dealt with a strange case on Monday. A doctor has indeed admitted to having tried to kill his mother’s long-time companion by injecting him with poison which he had passed off as a booster of the Covid-19 vaccine. The mobile? The 72-year-old man threatened his access to his mother’s inheritance. Disguised as a nurse so as not to be recognized, Thomas Kwan injected Patrick O’Hara with a toxic substance, probably a pesticide, explains The Independent.

At first, the 53-year-old doctor denied the facts, but he ended up pleading guilty after the prosecution presented its case. According to prosecutor Thomas Makepeace, Thomas Kwan was a “respected and experienced” doctor, who used “his encyclopedic knowledge” of poisons to attack the septuagenarian. To achieve his ends, the accused falsified documents, used a vehicle with false license plates and hid behind tinted glasses and a surgical mask before entering the house where his mother and the son lived. companion of it.

“O’Hara fell for it, like any of us,” the prosecutor told the court. The day after this attack in January, the victim was in pain and had blisters on one arm. Patrick O’Hara went to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with necrotizing fasciitis, that is, a “flesh-eating” disease. Part of his arm had to be amputated to prevent the disease from spreading, and the unfortunate man spent several weeks in intensive care.

The suspect was identified using surveillance camera images. During a search of his home, investigators found a range of chemicals, as well as castor bean seeds, which contain ricin, a powerful natural toxin. However, authorities were unable to identify the poison used by the doctor, who refused to give its name. “Although the assassination attempt on his victim fortunately failed, the consequences were catastrophic,” the prosecutor said. Thomas Kwan will be sentenced at a later date.
