Once again affected by Covid-19, Jonas Kaufmann had to give up a recital at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples this Sunday. A new renunciation due to health problems which disrupted his return to school and raises the question of his presence next Wednesday at the Théâtre du Châtelet for the launch of his tour Long live Puccini!.

Jonas Kaufmann is definitely out of luck this 2024/2025 school year. Already forced to give up two important concerts on September 8 in Bratislava and 4 days later at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the German tenor, who had nevertheless returned to the stage at the end of September at the Musikverein in Vienna then in Sofia and, on October 1 in Belgrade, once again withdrew from the recital in which he was to participate this Sunday in Naples.

At the Teatro San Carlo, Jonas Kaufmann was to sing with his accomplice Ludovic Tézier opera arias by Giuseppe Verdi and Amilcare Ponchielli. This time it was again because of Covid-19 that the German singer had to give up. This is the 4th time that he has been affected by this virus which, for 3 years, has forced him to cancel several performances in 2021, 2022 and last July for performances of Cavalleria Rusticana, Pietro’s opera Mascagni programmed by the Royal Opera House in London.

The tour Long live Puccini! scheduled to hit 11 cities by November 17

The question now is whether Jonas Kaufmann will be recovered in time to take part in the tour Long live Puccini! of which he is the initiator and which is due to begin next Wednesday at the Théâtre du Châtelet in where he is to sing with the Neapolitan soprano Valeria Sepe and the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz conducted by Jochen Rieder. Giacomo Puccini and Paris rather cursed for Jonas Kaufmann who had already canceled 2 recitals dedicated to the Italian composer in the capital, in 2015 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and in 2019 at the Opéra Bastille.
