A traumatic event for many history buffs. On April 15, 2019, Notre-Dame de was ravaged by the flames of an extraordinary fire, reducing to ashes some of the most emblematic elements of the building described by Victor Hugo in his famous novel of the same name. Since rebuilt identically, the cathedral reopened its doors in December 2024, revealing at the end of a five-year project the significant work carried out to restore its former glory. However, one detail has changed: its stained glass windows. Classified as historic monuments, they were replaced at the request of Emmanuel Macron by six contemporary stained glass windows. A modification which does not pass for Stéphane Bern, who announced on Wednesday January 16 in C à Vous that he would not let the matter drop.

Don’t see anything sentimental about it: if Notre-Dame de Paris is like “a friend that we find again”, the host affirms it, there is no question of reviving “the quarrel between the ancients and the moderns” but to “enforce the law”. Indeed, classified as historic monuments, the stained glass windows cannot normally be changed. Their replacement is therefore an aberration in the eyes of the law. Yori Bailleres’ companion explained it on Wednesday evening: “If I do the same thing at home, if I remove something that I don’t like, which is classified as a historic monument, to put in something that I like more, immediately, I have a fine.” By his decision to modify the stained glass windows of the (…)
