Bad weather: several rivers on pre-flood alert, closed parks in Brussels and various incidents

Vigilance is required on all waterways. A reassessment of the situation will be carried out depending on the weather conditions.

Concerning the eastern dams (Eupen, Gileppe), the potting reserves make it possible to absorb the rain. To the West (Ry de Rome and Eau d’Heure), the potting reserves are comfortable. The same goes for the Bütgenbach and Robertville dams.

Weather: the wind is going to blow, the IRM issues a yellow alert across the country

According to IRM forecasts, cumulative precipitation amounts of between 25 and 35 millimeters (locally) are still possible this Monday in the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg. Given the rain that already fell on Sunday, the total cumulative precipitation over the last 48 hours could locally reach 50 to 70 mm in these provinces, recalls the SPW. We will also have to fear this Monday afternoon wind gusts of between 80 and 90km/h, or even more very locally. The 1722 was also activated for risk of storm or flooding.

The next few days, from Tuesday to Thursday, should also be affected by new disturbances, some of which could be of a winter nature on the heights of the country.

It is advisable to protect homes (sandbags, boards, etc.) by securing any exterior object (garden furniture or other) that could be carried away by water or wind, or by clearing drains, gutters and gutters. Activities near rivers and in the forest are also strongly discouraged over the next few days.

Several incidents in the province of Luxembourg

Sunday, around 6:30 p.m., the fall of a tree caused a complete blockage of the roadway on rue du Wago in Gouvy. The Vielsalm firefighters cleared the roads.

This Monday morning, at 7:21 a.m., a total obstruction of the roadway linked to the fall of a tree was again reported, this time in Villers-Tortru in the commune of Etalle. The Stabule firefighters intervened.

Closure of Brussels green spaces due to violent winds

Due to the forecast wind gusts of at least 80 km/h, Brussels parks, nature reserves and woods, including the Soignes forest, will be prohibited from public access this Monday, January 6, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., indicates Sunday evening Brussels Environment.

Throughout the territory, it is also recommended to avoid driving near trees.

Parks in Brussels and Namur are closed to the public on Thursday due to the strong gusts of wind forecast by the IRM. Measures also in Walloon Brabant and other provinces

In Walloon Brabant, we are also taking several measures. On social networks, municipalities warn citizens about the various access bans. In Walhain, a town already heavily affected by bad weather, Drève Chèvequeue is closed to traffic for all users between the intersection with Rue des Anglées, up to the traffic lights at the intersections with the N4. This will apply until 6 p.m. The recyparc will also be closed during this period.

Still because of the winds, the des Rêves is closed this Monday, January 6. However, the other parts of the Domaine remain accessible. The same goes for the Dodaine park in Nivelles. In Jodoigne, we go further. In addition to closing the Parc de l’Europe (municipal park), the Ravel is also closed to traffic.

In Tubize, the parks (at the clinic, Saint-Jean, etc.) are closed. This is also the case for the Coeurcq ponds but also the playgrounds, the Vita course and the tennis court at the Leburton sports complex.

Finally, in Ottignies, we are worried about the level of the Dyle. If the region has classified the basin as pre-flood alert, the municipality is taking the lead and municipal services are depositing sandbags preventively: rue du Monument near the car park and at Avenue Léon Fournet .

In the Hainautit should be noted that the City of La Louvière has taken the decision to close the parks and slag heaps of the Louviéroise entity. The Strépy ponds site, outside the restaurant, is also closed.

On the territory of the City of Namuraccess is prohibited, this Monday January 6, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the following areas:

  • In the parks of Namur (Louise-Marie, des Sources and La Plante), Jambes (Reine Astrid and Amée) and Bouge (rue du Parc).
  • At the Citadelle site (except local service), with the exception of Route Merveilleuse where no traffic restrictions are planned.
  • At the Namur cemetery located on Chaussée de Waterloo in Saint-Servais.
