Your greatest pride in 2024?

The relaunch of music in 2024. Being a singer myself, I have witnessed and been victim of numerous blockages imposed by the authorities. I’m also very proud of a big collaboration with Marcus Gad, scheduled to release in 2025.

The most memorable moment for you?

For me, it is the Alliance of Change. There was real fear among the population, stress, omnipresent fear. But this change brought true freedom to Mauritius, transforming the climate of uncertainty into a surge of hope.

What challenge did you have to overcome?

I had to deal with several cancellations, sometimes two or three times in a row, which was a real blow.

What lesson have you learned?

I learned that you always have to rely on yourself. Many make promises, swearing heaven and earth, but in the end, there is nothing concrete. The Change Alliance saw artists actively involved, mixing music and politics during the campaign. The music had its impact, but since the promises made in November 2024, everything seems to have gone away.

During the first thank-you meeting, Paul Bérenger praised the role of the artists, but since then, there has been silence. No 14th month for us, just thanks. Too often, we use the popularity of artists to serve a cause, but behind it, nothing tangible follows.

A meeting or collaboration that inspired you?

My collaboration with Marcus Gad has been deeply inspiring. He is one of the greatest ambassadors of seggae, having brought this musical genre to America and proving that seggae has a real place on the international scene. I now hope that the government will have the will to support this musical genre and help it to shine even further.

What was your most unexpected moment?

One moment that really surprised me was when I went to a concert, finished soundchecks and rehearsals, only to find out it was canceled at the last minute. It was totally unexpected and destabilizing.

What message do you want to share?

We must succeed in creating a true spirit of Mauritianism. It’s time to stop putting ourselves in ethnic boxes and become true patriots. Let us respect our red, blue, yellow and green flag, and fully live authentic Mauritianism.
