Patrice Evra has just put a new layer on the years-long rivalry, pitting Lionel Messi against Cristiano Ronaldo in a recent interview with Koora Break.
Faithful to his choice, the former French international once again voted for the Portuguese when he was asked to choose between CR7 and Pulga.
“You already know the answer”he said to the interviewer, suggesting that he is not changing his choice of the best scorer of all time.
He then wanted to explain the reasons for his unfailing admiration for his former teammate at Manchester United, praising the Portuguese’s discipline.
“It’s not because Cristiano Ronaldo is my friend or anything”he first admitted before adding : “I have played against Messi several times, certainly he has often won over me, but I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo because he has a great sense of discipline. Everywhere he went, he managed to win a collective title. Even today, he dreams of winning a trophy with Al Nassr, you see? ».
And to continue ironically: “Maybe right now as I’m talking to you, he’s still in the middle of a training session with his wife and kids.”.
Cristiano Ronaldo, new winner of an individual title
At 39 years old and announced on the verge of retirement, the Portuguese star was recently rewarded once again during the Global Soccer Awards ceremony.
He was notably crowned best player in the Middle East, ahead of other big names in football, like Sadio Mané, Karim Benzema, but also Neymar.
A regularity that he owes to his discipline, so praised by his former teammate, Patrice Evra, during his recent interview.
