Gad Elmaleh is back on stage with his brand new show called “Himself”. The comedian discusses many subjects and gave an interview to our sisters at Version Femina to talk in more detail about this project, but not only that. On how this seventh show came to be, he confided: “The idea came to me while wandering around comedy clubs, where I tested sketches every evening alongside the younger generation of standupers.” By succeeding Roman Frayssinet on stage, I understood that my notoriety and my know-how would not be enough, because they are outdated“Faced with this observation, the father of two boys chose to arm himself with solid support.
Gad Elmaleh discusses taboo subjects
“Like going from McEnroe’s tennis to Nadal’s, I had to find a new rhythm and be more efficient. For that, I had to convey meaning, acuity, and like Roman’s creativity and depth inspired me , I asked him to help me sharpen my eyes”he revealed. In this show, he discusses for the first time certain subjects, sometimes taboo in France. “For the first time, I’m talking about money. It’s a notion that generates both fear and dreams, envy and disgust. I talk about how we can hide the price of things from our parents depending on of the education received In France, there are two major taboo subjects. : money and religion”, analyzed Noah’s dad.
And to continue: “Sex hasn’t been sex for a long time. When Americans keep quiet about it or approach it in a rather trashy way, we are able to talk about it without sneering, or even in a fairly sophisticated way. But for me, if I talks about it in my new show, it is only to contradict those who told me: ‘The good thing about you is that we can come see you as a family, because you don’t talk about sex!'”.
The famous bledard syndrome
In addition to these subjects, Gad Elmaleh also talks about his meeting with Pope Benedict XVI. He recounted with humor: “I describe it in the same way as my mother’s visit to the Palace of Monaco: ‘I was able to integrate this very closed place, I have to tell you about it!’. It’s a comical process that the Anglo-Saxons call a fish out of water and which reveals, concerning me, the famous blunder syndrome.. “But you know, like blond, it’s just a concept, because we’re all someone’s idiot. At home, this complex has always existed and, for years, while shopping, I Even though I paid and took the ticket, I was still afraid that the security gates would ring.”he admitted.
On this syndrome, he had already said a few words on the airwaves of RTL in 2021. The one who shared the life of Charlotte Casiraghi for 4 years and had a boy named Raphaël declared: “It’s more of an observation about me and me carrying myself around in several universes. There is Monaco, there is the United States, arrival in France and fatherhood. Monaco is part of a moment in my life that is true, but I talk more about my inadequacy than I make fun of the princely family.” And to conclude: “What I try to explain to people is that there is no one world that is better than the other. They complement each other (…) But I like to play that, I like to act stupid, I like to show that I am unsuitable, it’s a bit of comedy“.
