Omar Sy reveals why he prefers OM to PSG

Omar Sy and his unexpected love for OM

French actor Omar Sy reveals why he supports Olympique de instead of Saint-Germain.

Omar Sythe French actor and comedian, known for his role as Arsène Lupine in the famous Netflix series, is originally from the Paris region. However, far from supporting his hometown club, he has a real passion for it.Marseille Olympic. During the podcast The Bridgehe shared the deep reasons for his attachment to the Marseille club and his aversion to the Paris Saint-Germain.

The historical legacy of Olympique de Marseille

According to his words, OM embodies much more than a simple football club:

« OM? It's the Champions League, it's Basile Boli, Jean-Pierre Papin, Chris Waddle, it's all that. That's the story. »

This nostalgic evocation recalls the golden age of the Marseille club, marked by emblematic figures and memorable exploits. The victory in the Champions League in 1993 remains a flagship moment in the French football landscape.

Contrasting experiences between Paris and Marseille

The actor also explained why he could never identify with PSG. He described the tense atmosphere that reigned in the stands of the Parc des Princes in the 90s:

« At the time when we went to watch the matches at the Park, you only had skinheads. The Boulogne Boys are skinheads. »

For Omar Sy, attending the Parc des Princes in the 80s and 90s was a difficult experience, particularly because of the racism that was rampant in certain stands, such as that of Boulogne. This atmosphere kept him away from PSG, despite the geographical proximity of the club.

OM: A club linked to Africa

Another key factor in Omar Sy's attachment to OM lies in the club's historical link with the African continent.. The actor underlined the importance of figures like Pape Diouf, Senegalese president of Olympique de Marseille between 2005 and 2009:

« If you look at the history of the Marseille club, it is the most Senegalese French club. »

For Omar Sy, Olympique de Marseille represents much more than just a club. It is a history, a heritage and an identity that transcends sport.
