The Charente-Maritime department must invest 44 million euros in its restoration. A call for donations is launched.
After a public consultation which made it possible to alert about the poor state of Fort Boyard and to present a project for its preservation, the Department of Charente-Maritime recently launched a campaign calling for donations, by joining forces with the Heritage Foundation.

At the end of the year and in the coming months, those who wish can make a donation to save Fort Boyard (while benefiting from a tax deduction), via the Heritage Foundation website: www.fondation-patrimoine .org/fort-boyard, by text message to 92 892 (donation of €10 only), or by check sent by post. It will be possible to donate to save Fort Boyard until the end of the work planned for 2028.
Last weekend, some 34,000 euros had already been collected, out of the nine million hoped for.
Protective structures destroyed over time
For several decades, Fort Boyard has suffered the assaults of waves and time, threatening its sustainability.
If the fort was originally protected by a spur on its northwest facade and by side jetties serving as a docking harbor on its southeast facade, it has been exposed to attacks from the sea for several years. ; its protective works having been destroyed over time.

“This results today in a strong exposure of Fort Boyard to attacks from the swell, leading to its deterioration: several cracks are visible to the naked eye from the outside”indicates the Department.
Convinced of the idea of not letting Fort Boyard perish, the Department of Charente-Maritime decided to launch “ in a large-scale project, by carrying out the reconstruction, with current technologies and materials, of the original works which were destroyed over time.«
The work, which will begin in the summer of 2025, will be carried out by a multidisciplinary team (Delphine Gramaglia, heritage architect, the BRLi design office, as well as the ETPO company), and partly financed by the call for proposals campaign. donations launched at the end of 2024..
