After receiving several criticisms on social media regarding his eyes and smile, American videographer MrBeast discovered that he suffered from “severe astigmatism”. He now wears contact lenses.
“He doesn't smile with his eyes.” “It looks like a dog showing its teeth.” “He has the eyes of a fried whiting.” MrBeast, the most followed videographer on Youtube, constantly receives criticism about his eyes and his smile. But against all odds, these unpleasant messages turned out to be useful, as Dexerto reports.
Indeed, the American YouTuber followed by 336 million subscribers, revealed on December 10 that he had been diagnosed with astigmatism thanks to the numerous criticisms received on social networks.
“Without lenses, I can’t see”
“I get these kinds of comments a lot, which is why I had my eyes examined and found out that I have severe astigmatism and my vision is horrible,” he explains in a post on X, ex Twitter.
Concretely, astigmatism manifests itself as blurred and distorted vision, both near and far. “Without lenses, I can't see unless I squint and that's why my eyes looked dull in photos when I smiled,” adds the content creator, while noting that he now wears lenses.
“Thanks to everyone who reported this problem to me, you helped me realize that distant objects are not supposed to be blurry,” he concludes.
The American YouTuber has become known for his crazy challenge videos with huge budgets and thanks to his numerous philanthropic content. A recipe that allowed him to become the most followed personality on YouTube last June.
Despite this undeniable success, in recent months the content creator has faced a wave of controversiesin particular about the Beast Games, a reality show launched by the influencer on Amazon Prime Video.
In August 2024, several candidates and team members denounced a lack of hygiene and food during filming. Since then, five former anonymous candidates have decided to file a complaint on behalf of all participants on September 16 for “chronic mistreatment and sexual harassment.”
