Pascal Praud found himself at the heart of a huge controversy following the comments of his guest, the writer Richard Millet in his show “L'heure des pros”. The latter indeed awkwardly mentioned the coming out of Lucie Castets.
Pascal Praud was at the helm of a new issue of L'heure des pros on CNews. It was for the host, the opportunity to receive Richard Millet who did not hesitate to say what he thought of the appointment of Lucie Castets to succeed Gabriel Attal at Matignon. The writer's words did not leave his interlocutor indifferent.
Pascal Praud intervenes live and reframes his guest
Richard Millet's words clearly did not leave Pascal Praud indifferent. The writer has in fact described Lucie Castets as “
unknown, sexually incorrect “. A way for him to suggest the use of his sexual orientation for political purposes. Faced with such statements, the host therefore did not hesitate to intervene by emphasizing the inappropriate and offensive nature of these comments.
The debates are launched
“Um… Wait, because there… What did you say? The moderator that I am must immediately rectify,” declared Pascal Praud, visibly surprised by the turn of the conversation. Richard Millet then tried to justify himself by asserting that Lucie Castets' sexual orientation was ”
completely correct “, but Pascal Praud immediately cut short this argument by questioning him on the very notion of ” correct sexual orientation» : «
But what does 'correct sexual orientation' mean?! I understand well, but the moderator that I am must intervene because precisely, this is not the subject ».
A sequence which sparked strong reactions
Far from being convinced, Richard Millet continued by asserting that “ it's all things » and that the choice of Lucie Castets was “ a building “. According to him, this 40-year-old woman, “ sexually oriented by new world standards ”, would be used to serve a political cause. As could be expected, this exchange quickly made the rounds on social networks and sparked numerous reactions, both from viewers and political and media figures. Many people condemned his comments for being homophobic and misogynistic.
A heated debate
Pascal Praud, for his part, was congratulated for his prompt and firm reaction to these unacceptable comments. The moderator thus demonstrated his role as moderator by recalling the limits of the debate and defending the values of respect and tolerance. This sequence in any case highlights the issues of an often heated and polarized public debate. The media indeed have a crucial role to play in promoting a constructive dialogue respectful of differences.
