Formal portrait of Prince Sverre Magnus on his 19th birthday
While the Norwegian royal family is going through a difficult time, this Tuesday, December 3, offers an opportunity to rejoice. Prince Sverre Magnus, son of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, celebrates his 19th birthday. As tradition dictates, the Royal House did not break its habits by sharing a new photo of the prince who is celebrating his birthday. It is a relatively formal photo of Prince Sverre Magnus in a white shirt which was shared with the population for the occasion.
Prince Sverre Magnus is one of five grandchildren of King Harald V and Queen Sonja, but he is the only boy. Crown Prince Haakon has an eldest daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, and a son, Prince Sverre Magnus. Princess Märtha Louise, sister of Crown Prince Haakon, has three daughters. King Harald V, aged 87, delegates more and more responsibility to his son Haakon, who will succeed him. As for Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who is currently doing her military service, she is considered the future heir, and one day she will be the country's first reigning queen. Prince Sverre Magnus currently occupies 3rd place in the line of succession to the throne.

The royal family is going through complicated times, due to the precarious health of King Harald, who had a pacemaker fitted in February, after an emergency medical repatriation from Malaysia where he was spending his vacation. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who suffers from chronic pulmonary fibrosis, is plagued by periodic attacks. She is once again undergoing treatment, the side effects of which force her to cancel some of her official commitments. Crown Princess Mette-Marit must at the same time manage the worries of her eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby. Marius was born before Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon. The 27-year-old young man, who is not a member of the royal family, is accused of psychological and physical violence against several ex-partners. In recent days, several accusations of rape have been added to the list of charges. He has just spent several days in pre-trial detention.
Prince Sverre Magnus has been living in Trondheim, Norway's third largest city, for several months. In a relationship with Amalie Giaver MacLeod, also from this town, the young man recently left the Skaugum villa, the official residence of the heir family where he grew up. Prince Sverre Magnus graduated from high school earlier this summer and is now working in Trondheim. The heir family declined to give details of his work, specifying however that he will remain in Trondheim until the holiday period. It could be that the prince also performs his military service, which is – in principle – obligatory in Norway. Usually, military service begins at the beginning of the year, leaving a few months free between the end of high school and conscription, which young Norwegians generally take advantage of by doing internships or small jobs.
