This Thursday, June 20, nine days after the death of Françoise Hardy, family, friends and admirers gathered at the Père-Lachaise crematorium in the 20th arrondissement of Paris for a final tribute to the icon of the 1960s. The singer, who died at the age of 80, left behind a generation marked by her melodies and her unique voice.

Thomas Dutronc, the son of Françoise Hardy, arrived shortly before 3:00 p.m., accompanied by his father, Jacques. Together, they welcomed the many guests who came to pay tribute to Françoise. Among them, key figures of the French music scene like Étienne Daho, Julien Clerc, Laurent Voulzy, Sheila, Dave and Salvatore Adamo. Personalities from cinema and television, including director François Ozon, Mireille Dumas and Michel Denisot, were also present.

No religious ceremony for the singer

The desire of Françoise Hardy was to be cremated without religious ceremony. The half-hour ceremony took place in an environment full of simplicity and emotion. The singer’s iconic songs, such as All the boys and girls, How to say goodbye et Message personnelresonated under the dome of the crematorium, touching the many admirers present.

Among the hundreds of fans gathered, some wanted to express their gratitude and sadness. Jean-Charles, a 70-year-old Parisian retiree, shared: “She marked our lives, from the 1960s to today. With her texts, we could take the time to settle down and live”. Houria, a 71-year-old Parisian, recalled: “She represents all of my youth, she was a discreet personality, far from the buzz, a very beautiful woman compared to today’s bimbos.”

Brigitte Macron booed by the audience

Political figures such as Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni also attended the ceremony, as well as Culture Minister Rachida Dati. Part of the audience unfortunately booed Brigitte Macronwho came for the occasion.

The ashes of Françoise Hardy will be transported to Corsica, where she had a house in Monticello, after this Parisian ceremony. In this property, Jacques Dutronc, who currently resides with his partner Sylvie Duval, will ensure that the last wishes of Françoise Hardy are respected. Indeed, the singer wanted to be buried privately on the Isle of Beauty.

His long fight for the end of life

Françoise Hardy has been fighting a fierce battle against cancer since 2004. Despite several remissions, the disease finally got the better of her. In 2023, in an interview with Paris Matchshe had confided that she wanted “leave soon and quickly, without too many challenges”supporting and demanding the right to die with dignity.

In the 1960s, Françoise Hardy managed to establish herself on the Anglo-Saxon public with a career that crossed borders, attracting the attention of legends like Mick Jagger et Bob Dylan. In 2023, she was still the only French woman to be classified in the ranking of the 200 best singers of all time from the magazine Rolling Stone.
