Since May 2024, Guillaume Meurice has been suspended from France Inter following a joke made last October. In fact, he caused controversy after making comments about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the process, complaints were filed against him for “provocation of violence and anti-Semitic hatred“, dismissed. However, the matter did not end there since after repeating his joke, he was finally fired and “summoned to a prior interview with a view to a possible disciplinary sanction which could go as far as early termination of employment [son] fixed-term contract for serious misconduct.”

Finally, on June 11, the France Inter comedian was fired for “serious misconduct”: “Guillaume Meurice learned that we were terminating his contract with Radio France. I took this decision for repeated disloyalty towards the company. Neither freedom of expression nor humor have ever been threatened at Radio France“, said Sibyle Veil, CEO of Radio France. Since then, many have come to her defense, including Charline Vanhoenacker, the host of the Great Sunday evening. This Saturday, June 15, Anne Roumanoff was on the show C l’Hebdo on France 5 to present his latest show L’Expérience de la vie. There have always been comedians who got fired but I find that in the current period, there are perhaps other emergencies than firing Guillaume Meurice for a joke that failed.“
