In a significant event for Senegal’s digital and economic ecosystem, Sonatel, in collaboration with Orange Money, today formalized a partnership with the Association of Delivery Workers of Senegal as part of the Kuruel program. This initiative, which directly targets the 50,000 young entrepreneurs in the delivery sector in Senegal, is divided into three essential components: the digitalization of payments, access to adapted telecoms packages and the promotion of road safety.
Digital support and payment facilitation
The first axis of the Kuréel program is intensive digital support. Sonatel and Orange Money are committed to providing members of the association with modern digital tools, with a particular focus on electronic payment methods. The Weli offer, already available, will allow delivery people to carry out their collections simply, quickly and securely, thus facilitating their daily professional lives while meeting customer expectations.
Tailor-made telecoms packages for delivery people
The second part of the initiative concerns the provision of specific telecoms packages for delivery people. These “unlimited and advantageous” plans will allow association members to benefit from continuous connectivity, essential for their activity, without fear of cuts or excessive costs. The objective is to guarantee each delivery person smooth communication, while meeting the growing needs of their customers.
Road safety awareness: a partnership that saves lives
The third pillar of Kuréel touches on a crucial aspect for the association and the Sonatel group: road safety. Indeed, delivery people often face risks on the roads. To meet this challenge, Sonatel is committed to providing safety equipment, such as fluorescent vests and helmets equipped with Bluetooth kits. This equipment will not only keep delivery people safe, but also provide them with a simple and secure way to take calls while on the move.
A strategic sector for the Senegalese economy
The delivery sector is an essential pillar of the Senegalese economy. Made up of around 50,000 young entrepreneurs, this sector contributes significantly to the country’s economic activity. The growing demand for delivery services in urban and rural areas shows how vital this market is. In this context, Sonatel positions itself as a major player by working alongside delivery people to offer concrete solutions adapted to their needs.
Sekou Drame, General Manager of Sonatel, underlined the importance of this partnership for the future of delivery people: “We have given back to César what belongs to him. This program directly responds to the needs expressed by the Association of Delivery Workers of Senegal, and we are convinced that our digital and telecom support will allow these young entrepreneurs to perform better in their activity and improve their working conditions. »
Expansion to other associations and support for access to financial services
The Kuréel program is not limited to the Association of Delivery Drivers of Senegal. It is open to any formal association of delivery people who wish to benefit from these services. Ultimately, Sonatel plans to strengthen this initiative by involving other strategic partners, particularly in the areas of insurance and access to credit.
Discussions with partners in the banking and insurance sector are already underway. Very soon, members of the Association of Delivery Drivers of Senegal will be able to benefit from digital credits via Orange Bank, as well as insurance offers specially designed for their activity.
A promising future for Senegalese delivery men
The Association of Delivery Drivers of Senegal, represented by its president Seydina Alioune Fall and its secretary general Ibrahima Badji, welcomed this initiative, which goes well beyond simple telecoms services. According to them, the Kuréel initiative will bring many benefits to their members, in particular with the vests and helmets provided, which help distinguish delivery workers from other road users and guarantee their safety.
Delivery drivers’ support for this program is unanimous, and they intend to respect the safety rules to fully benefit from the advantages of this initiative.
Sonatel: an actor committed to socio-economic development
Sonatel thus continues to play a leading role in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The Kurel program perfectly illustrates the group’s commitment to supporting initiatives that positively impact the lives of the Senegalese, while contributing to the growth of key sectors for the national economy.
In short, Kurel promises to be a model of partnership between the private sector and civil society actors, creating synergies for more inclusive and secure digital, economic and social development for delivery workers in Senegal.
