With 266 million subscribers, American videographer MrBeast has become the most followed person in the world on YouTube. It dethrones Indian music label T-series, which held the top spot since 2019.

He reigned supreme on the top step of the podium for almost five years. The Indian music label T-series is no longer the most followed channel in the world on YouTube.

The production and distribution company with 266 million subscribers was defeated by American videographer MrBeast on June 2. He officially becomes the most followed person in the world on YouTube.

A dazzling success

This replacement at the top of the Youtube charts is not a big surprise. For several months MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has been rapidly gaining ground. In recent days, it gained an average of one million subscribers per day, compared to only 70,000 for T-series.

A success that the 26-year-old American owes to his videos with ultra-produced concepts. Because the videographer relies on sensationalism to seduce his audience. On the program, reality shows with a $5 million reward, videos where he spends a week buried alive or tests one of the “most dangerous traps in the world”.

He also spent $3.5 million to rebuild Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and offered his subscribers the chance to win $500,000 in a competition inspired by the series. Squid Game on Netflix.

So many videos with huge budgets. But the content creator can afford it. According to the Forbes ranking of the highest paid YouTubers, MrBeast earned some $54 million in 2021. To increase his audience, all of his videos are also translated into 13 languages.

Charity business and big productions

Big Hollywood productions, absurd challenges, and philanthropic initiatives are his DNA on the platform, where he has been posting since he was 13. Because what made MrBeast famous are these famous “charity” videos. The YouTuber regularly films himself giving money to homeless people, building a school and bringing water to 100 villages in Africa.

So much so that in 2022, he launched his charity channel Beast Philanthropy and the organization of the same name. In partnership with associations, he posts videos in which he distributes food or rebuilds the homes of families of victims. All often in the form of a challenge.

Even if it means creating some controversy. His video “1,000 blind people see for the first time” unleashed the wrath of Internet users. Many then accused him of staging his good deeds in order to gain views. Controversies which do not taint the popularity of the new king of Youtube.

Avenge PewDiePie

This handover between MrBeastet and T-series is taking place in a much more discreet manner than in 2019, when the Bollywood music video channel dethroned the YouTuber PewDiePie. At the time, the Swedish videographer widely publicized the battle, calling on his fans to mobilize by organizing support marches.

MrBeast had also joined the movement. In particular, he bought radio advertisements to encourage Internet users to subscribe and published a video in which we see him pronouncing the name PewDiePie up to 100,000 times in 12 hours. Despite all these efforts, it was T-series which won the battle.

Last August, MrBeast swore on X, formerly Twitter, to avenge the honor of his friend PewDiePie, by becoming number one on YouTube. It is now done.
