Franco-Luxembourgish host: “I loved my Luxembourgish grandparents”: Stéphane Bern on the verge of tears

A lovely moment of emotion. Stéphane Bern reaffirmed his love for his Luxembourg maternal grandparents on Saturday, during an interview with the magazine “50 minutes Inside” (TF1).

“I loved my grandparents,” confides the Franco-Luxembourg host, holding back tears. My memory of them is still very strong today. My grandfather introduced me to history. He told me about his war, we opened maps of France, he showed me the roads, the maquis, how we resisted. I felt like I had a witness.”

His grandfather also introduced him to the monarchy and the history of crowned heads. “With them, I found a family which – a priori – seemed happy to me. I have since learned that royal families are like ours, they have problems. It makes them even more human,” he joked to Isabelle Ithurburu.

The native of Lyon also talks about his grandmother who loved “unconditionally” and who, therefore, “clashed” with his mother. The radio and television presenter, who had already declared his love for Luxembourg, explains that when he could no longer bear the pressure at his mother’s house, he went to his grandparents, who lived in the district of Belair in Luxembourg. “I had all the rights with them, I was the little prince,” he says. I was allowed to watch TV even though my parents didn’t have TV. I was allowed brioche when we had hard bread at home. In fact, everything was more wonderful.”
