“Emily in Kaboul”: The mayor of Trappes is outraged after comments in RMC’s “Grandes Gueules”, Arcom seized

This Monday, October 14 in “Les Grandes Gueules” on RMC and RMC Story, the columnists discussed the series “Emily in ”. The reason: in an interview with the American magazine “Variety”, Emmanuel Macron spoke about the end of season 3 of the Netflix series, in which the character of Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, ends the episodes not in the French capital, but in Rome. “Why don’t they do ‘Emily in ’?” asks host Olivier Truchot. “I would love to see ‘Emily in Kabul’” adds his co-presenter Alain Marschall. “It will last one episode then”, we can hear.

“Your fat laughter full of disdain and arrogance only insults yourselves”

“‘Emily in Kaboul’ filmed in , there is no need to go very far to film”concludes columnist Jean-Loup Bonnamy, all smiles. An implication which did not please the mayor of the town of and Paris suburbs, Ali Rabeh. “How many times have you set foot in Trappes, you ignorant bunch?” he wrote on his X account on Tuesday. “Your fat laughter full of disdain and arrogance only insults yourselves. My city is populated by essential workers, who are no match for you, stage clowns”he concludes. Puremédias invites you to watch the sequence in the video above.

The official account of the city of Trappes also wrote on its X account, taking the duo of presenters to task and calling out Arcom: “Messrs Olivier Truchot and Alain Marschall, we are obliged to remind you of the importance of rigorous control of your antenna. The town of Trappes and its inhabitants cannot be the targets of nauseating mockery.”, we can read. The city also shared a publication from the “Vigie des Médias” account, which sent a report to Arcom for “Degrading, discriminating or defamatory comments or images“. “A columnist stigmatizes the inhabitants of Trappes by ironically saying that the series ‘Émilie in Kaboul’ would be filmed there. The remarks reinforce the clichés about the inhabitants of the city who are already victims of numerous discriminations due to their social level.”, writes the account.

We would like to denounce the comments made on the air and express our support for the inhabitants of the city of Trappes”published for its part in another tweet the CGT union union within RMC-BFM. “Responsible management should stop this type of recurring remarks and demand an apology on air”, she adds. For the moment, the management of the radio and the continuous channel has not officially reacted.

“It’s good, it’s a waste”, reacts Alain Marschall

However, on the sidelines of an interview given to Puremedias by the duo of presenters of the program which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, Alain Marschall mentioned this extract. “Something happened today. It’s vexation or emotion. That is to say, you can make a joke that is black humor or mockery, and we immediately take it personally, first degree. We made jokes yesterday (Monday, editor’s note) about ‘Emily in Paris’, ‘Emily in Rome’ and ‘Emily in Kabul’. And then, one of our ‘Big Mouths’ said: ‘There’s no point in going to Kabul. Just go to Trappes’. The town of Trappes is not happy and has seized Arcom. It’s okay, it’s a waste. It’s not serious”, he concludes.
