A controversy broke out in Morocco regarding the broadcast of the television series “ Nass el mellah » on the channel 2M. At the heart of this turmoil is Eva Kadosha Jewish Moroccan actress, whose presence on screen sparked a wave of protests on social networks.
The main role given to Kadosh in this production directed by Jamila Borji provoked the indignation of a group of Moroccan citizens. The latter expressed their dissatisfaction with the casting choice, believing that a Jewish actress should not occupy such a central place in a national series.
Tension increased during demonstrations in support of Palestine organized in Rabat. The protesters urged the 2M channel to interrupt the broadcast of “Nass el mellah”, citing the context of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Some have even called for a public apology from the producers for selecting Eva Kadosh as the headliner.
Paradoxically, the character played by Kadosh in the series embodies positive values. She plays the role of Messouda, a real-life Moroccan Jewish woman who ran a restaurant in the Derb Lalla Laaroussa district of Essaouira. The storyline portrays Messouda as an exemplary figure, known for his kindness, his moral qualities and his caring attitude towards all his clients.
