Thomas Pesquet is one of the most inspiring French people, through their talent or their values. Since his first mission on the International Space Station, the astronaut has won the hearts of his family, becoming, despite himself, a hero with quiet strength that younger people admire. Decorated with the Legion of Honor last year, Thomas Pesquet received another form of reward this summer. He was able to carry the Olympic flame during its relay before the opening of the Olympics. A real gift for this inveterate sports fan, and a real breath of fresh air before a busy back-to-school season for him.

Back to school means change and, for Thomas Pesquet, it is big. The astronaut recently became a reserve colonel within the 31st Strategic Refueling and Transport Wing, within the Air Force. “I’m opening a new chapter,” he confided on his social networks. Friday October 11, he announced that he had started his training, very focused on physics and military tactics, with the operational reserve of the Air and Space Force.

Thomas Pesquet remains an astronaut with the European Space Agency “with a view to future lunar missions”, but he intends to use the rest of his time to serve the country in other ways. He explained why he made this decision to join the Air and Space Force in the middle of his career.
