After 52 years of existence, the oldest game in the history of French television will bow out. Indeed, one of the managers of France Télévisions announced the cancellation of the program “Des Numéros et des Lettres” on Sunday May 5, 2024 in “La Tribune du Dimanche”.

This sad news was announced by the general director of France Télévisions, Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, in the columns of the Sunday Tribune. “The weekend programming of Numbers and Letters was not successful. After fifty years of existence, it is an emblematic meeting. It’s a difficult decision, but we have made the choice to stop this program“, he declared on this subject. Before being relegated to the weekend, this emblematic meeting of the small screen was broadcast daily at the end of the afternoon on France 3.
His change in programming therefore only accelerated his disappearance. Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez also added in this same interview that a “goodbye show will bring together Patrice Laffont and Laurent Romejko. And will thank all the teams” : “This is normal life for all TV channels. We are constantly testing things. The essential missions of the public service will be preserved“, assured Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez on this subject.
