Mosimann arrives in Belgium on May 7, 9 and 10. Not behind his DJ decks or as a coach of The Voice but in a documentary to be seen respectively in the Kinépolis of Brussels, Braine-l’Alleud and Liège. Outside the Box at L’Olympia tells the adventure that led the Swiss-born French DJ to produce this one-off show in the legendary Parisian venue twelve years after playing there for the first time. A meeting which has all the makings of a turning point for the artist and sums up nearly 15 years of career.

This concert at the Olympia on November 5, 2022 is once again a crazy story that you have embarked on…

“Crazy things always happen to me. In the documentary, nothing is fictionalized. It’s the truth, three weeks before the date which was announced as sold-out, nothing was ready. I didn’t know that that I was going to do. The people who attended the live saw the dress rehearsal of a show that will never happen again.

All this for a one shot? Why put such pressure on yourself if the show doesn’t then go on tour?

“The real reason was to close the loop and be aligned. There were these questions: am I in my place, do I feel good in what I have created? This was not the case during my first Olympia (September 26, 2010, Editor’s note). It was about summarizing 15 years with their doubts. This Olympia was the moment to say that I am closing a chapter of which I am keeping one. testimony I signed for a tour with LiveNation and we opened the live sequence with this Olympia. We know very well that doing an Olympia means losing money. The 30 dates that followed reimbursed this investment. .”

Quentin Mosimann: “I owe a lot to Belgium”

You talk about coming full circle and being aligned. What does it mean ?

“Being aligned is a notion that I find in young artists like Angèle. When she arrives, she knows exactly where she wants to go, she is perfectly aligned. Patrick Bruel, on the other hand, waited years before knowing who he was, where did he want to go, what did he want to defend? This is also my case. I waited 15 years in my career to say I’m stopping. do certain things, I accept the idea that what I do does not please everyone in order to be aligned. This Olympia, that’s it.

So a new Mosimann has been born?

“It’s the Mosimann aligned. What do people expect from me? What do I expect from myself and what am I going to give them? When I made the EP Outside the Box, there was nothing commercial about it. I didn’t do it for people, it was a project for me. It was a risk. It might not have worked and there would have been no Olympia. But it turns out it worked well. We hear all the time that if you are yourself, things will work out. I thought it was bullshit. It’s clear that when you’re truly yourself, it works. Because you don’t have the same expectations. When you have expectations that aren’t aligned with who you are, when you say you need to have success, money, etc., it screws up all the time. Today, I don’t expect anything, neither more success nor more recognition. I have what I want.”

Did you have fun with this Olympia?

“I followed through with all the ideas I had. I even added some. The magic trick (it disappears at the end of the show, Editor’s note), it was the last minute blow for the producers of the show it was a real investment and I took it upon myself All this for a result of 30 seconds during which I floated in the air. you have to get out of the boxes.”

Quentin Mosimann, winner of season 7 of Star Ac’: “For a DJ, it was a shame to do this show”

In the film, we see how hellish this makes the lives of those with you…

“It’s true but it’s also what drives us. My father went to the markets with his little itinerant creperie. All his life, he dreamed of having his creperie, in his village. He managed to save for it. ‘buy. In my kitchen, I have photos of Zénith, of exchanges I had with David Guetta, of things that stimulate me. They tell me that that’s where I’m going.

What are your plans after the screening of the documentary?

“There is the tour this summer and also time for me and my project, because I have made a lot of albums and songs for others. And then, there is the American dream. My goal today , it’s Ibiza and Ibiza, it’s not that easy. The competition is tough and that’s where it’s happening. same thing except that everything is possible in America You can pick yourself up like having the ultimate success. I’m ready, I know where I’m going.

Quentin Mosimann: An international career

Is there an ultimate dream of collaboration lingering in your mind?

“I dream of sharing with other DJs. I love David Guetta, Calvin Harris, etc. I came from Ibiza and I was in the studio with Junior Sanchez, a house legend. He became my friend .”

Have you ever imagined that star Academy would take you there?

“Never in life. What’s happening in my life right now is crazy. Only beautiful things are happening.”
