One of these four films could win the Oscar for best international film.
The National Center for Cinema and the Animated Image (CNC) shared a press release on Wednesday, September 11 to announce which films were preselected to represent France at the 2025 Oscars for Best International Film.
After a meeting, four titles were released. These are: All We Imagine as Light by Payal Kapadia, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard and Mercy by Alain Guiraudie.

Listed alphabetically by the CNC, we find first All We Imagine as Light, a film shot in India which received the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Count of Monte Cristowhich was an immediate success with a cumulative total of 8 million admissions, played by Pierre Niney in the lead role.
Emilia Perez who received the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and the collective Best Actress Award for Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón, which has accumulated 637,268 admissions.
Finally, Mercy, a French comedy/thriller that will be released next October.
The commission is yet to meet to audition producersTHE international sellers and, where applicable, the American distributors of each pre-selected film. It will then designate the film that will represent France in the race for the Oscar for best international film 2025, we can read in the press release.
