American actress Julia Roberts will be awarded an honorary César on February 28, 2025, during the 50th edition of the most prestigious French cinema awards, the organizers announced on Monday.

Propelled to the forefront at the age of 23 in “Pretty Woman” with Richard Gere (1990), Julia Roberts made the history of romantic comedy (“Love at First Sight in Notting Hill”) and won an Oscar for her role as a whistleblower in “Erin Brockovich” in 2001.

At 56, the actress remains one of the most famous and endearing faces of American cinema. She is also known for her humanitarian and environmental commitments.

The Honorary César, which rewards a career, was awarded this year to French director and actress Agnès Jaoui and British director Christopher Nolan.

The 50th César ceremony, broadcast unencrypted on the Canal+ channel, must be chaired by Catherine Deneuve. Nominations are due to be announced on January 29. The 49th edition saw the triumph of “Anatomy of a Fall”, by Justine Triet (César for best film and best direction).
