American rock star Jon Bon Jovi and his crew were filming a music video when a woman attempted to commit suicide off a bridge in Nashville, USA, on Tuesday.

His gesture probably helped prevent the worst. American rock singer Jon Bon Jovi managed to persuade a woman – who was planning to end her life – not to jump off a bridge in Nashville, USA on Tuesday, September 10.

According to NBC News, the star and his crew were filming the music video for “The People’s House” on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge when they spotted a woman about to jump off the bridge.

Skillful negotiation

On CCTV footage provided by the city, the 62-year-old rocker and a female employee can be seen approaching one of the barriers on the footbridge. The two then begin to talk to the person who is visibly “distraught,” according to statements by local authorities.

AloWhile Jon Bon Jovi’s assistant tried to calm the recalcitrant woman by putting a hand on her back, the artist attempted a final negotiation. The talks paid off: the young woman finally agreed to go back behind the parapet. The musician and leader of the rock group Bon Jovi, formed in 1983, then hugged the young woman before accompanying her and leaving the bridge.

Support for vulnerable people

“Bon Jovi helped convince her to climb off the Cumberland River ledge to safety,” Nashville Police Chief John Drake said in a social media post.

Applauded for his gesture, Jon Bon Jovi has distinguished himself for several years in actions with vulnerable people. In 2007, the singer created the JBJ Soul foundation, an association offering support to homeless people and those in precarious situations. According to the American press, the star would have also followed an in-depth training to speak to people in difficulty.
