Melodic and gothic

For fans of The Cure, and there are many of them, Alone is anything but a surprise. This is the title which opened the concert given by the English group at the Sportpaleis in Antwerp on November 23, 2022 as well as most of the shows given as part of the world tour Songs Of The Lost World.

The “single” version lasts six minutes and forty-eight seconds. It’s Cure. It’s a great cure. Chiseled guitars, layers of vaporous keyboards, oppressive bass line (ah!!!! Simon Gallup), gothic, mysterious atmospheres, both dark and luminous. After the long intro which takes us back to the best moments of “Disintegration”, Robert Smith attacks the first verse by saying: “This is the end of every song we sing“.”It’s the end of all the songs we sing“. Oops… Some fans already see it as a sort of swan song, a farewell, as if “Songs Of The Lost World” was going to be the group’s last album. Everyone will have their own idea.

The Cure have revealed the release date of their new single announcing their first album in 16 years

On the other hand, what is certain is that the dark atmospheres ofAlone should be found on the other songs of “Songs Of The Lost World”. Robert Smith lost his mother, father and brother since the album “4:13 Dream”. He explained that these events had necessarily rubbed off on his writing without qualifying his new songs as autobiographical. Latest album or not, “Songs Of The Lost World” promises to be the rock event of the end of the year and this first single bodes well for the best.
