LFully electric cars have increased sharply in one year in Belgium, from 138,749 in 2023 to 254,240 in 2024 (+83.2%), according to figures published Monday by Statbel, the Belgian statistical office.
Of these electric cars, 82% are registered in the name of a company. Only 45,348 cars (17.8%) belong to individuals.
Hybrid cars currently represent 11.7% of the total vehicle fleet. There will be 710,687 in 2024, compared to 537,817 in 2023 (+32.1%). Here too, company cars are in the majority (55.6%).

As for gas-powered cars, their number remains marginal, even though they increased by 11.8% in 2024 to reach 22,786. On 1 August 2024, Belgium had 6,089,564 passenger cars, compared to 6,030,700 a year earlier. This is an increase of 1%.
Petrol vehicles remain by far the most numerous (3.13 million), ahead of diesel vehicles (1.93 million). More than one in five cars (1.24 million) belong to a company.
