A stepmother from Lanaudière who subjected her newborn baby to real atrocities will languish in jail for 12 years, after which she will remain under the yoke of the prison authorities for a very long period.

The 30-year-old woman, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of the victim, was first sentenced to six years in prison for serious assault on her daughter.

Behind bars, she still had a heavy conscience.

Thus, the criminal herself asked to speak to the police to reveal a long list of disturbing actions inflicted on the little girl.

It involves sexual and physical abuse which earned him, Wednesday, at the Joliette courthouse, another six-year penitentiary sentence.

“I am more capable. There is something else, lots of things,” she said at one point during a filmed meeting with a duo of investigators from the Terrebonne police.

Disgust and adrenaline

In a written statement, she detailed all the atrocities, as well as their frequency.

The abuse, driven by impulses, began when her daughter was only 5 months old.

In search of “adrenaline”, “the accused explains that she was strangling the victim and resuscitating her. She had to resuscitate her 2 or 3 times,” we read in a summary of the facts of the case.

Worse still, the unworthy mother forcibly submerged the infant’s head in water every time she took a bath.

“She took advantage of the slightest opportunity to hurt the victim because she didn’t like him,” we mention.

The accused, who was present at the hearing from the National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry Philippe-Pinel, was declared a long-term offender by judge Serge Cimon.

In the eyes of the court, this means that there is a high risk of recidivism, but that this risk could be controlled in the community.

After her detention, the thirty-year-old will be subject to supervision by Canadian correctional services for 10 years, the maximum period provided for by the Criminal Code. She will also be registered as a sex offender for 20 years.

«[Sa] “The girl still disgusts her and if she had to do it again, she would do the same thing,” the investigators noted.

The accused also behaved violently towards herself and other people in prison, it was reported in court.

She was convicted of biting a correctional officer on the arm who had intervened during a period of “disorganization.”

“Continue the steps [de réhabilitation] that you do. You’re off to a good start. I encourage you and I wish you good luck,” Judge Cimon told him.

Me Brenda Toucado represented the public prosecutor in this case, while Me Guillaume Binette defended the abusive mother.
