After reaching an all-time high on Monday morning at more than $109,000, bitcoin slowed its pace in the afternoon, while remaining at a very high level.

(Keystone-ATS) The queen of digital currencies was taking advantage of the “Trump effect”: the US president-elect, who takes office this evening in Washington, is expected to relax regulations in the sector.

Around 5:50 p.m., bitcoin stood at $106,460 (+5.3%), after reaching more than $109,000 around 8:30 a.m., a record.

Bitcoin is now evolving at levels far from being imagined 16 years ago when it was created, and well beyond its value on November 5, the day of the American presidential election, when it hovered around 69′ 000 dollars. The cryptocurrency market, in search of credibility, sees the return of Republican Donald Trump to the White House as a boon, especially with Elon Musk at his side.

The president-elect even launched his own digital currency during the night from Friday to Saturday, an announcement which caused great volatility on the markets in recent hours.

Some 200 million tokens of this digital currency have been placed on the market, with dazzling success. Around 12:00 p.m., however, enthusiasm was running out of steam: “Trump” was trading at $53.74, down 18.79%.

A new era is likely to begin for the sector this Monday. “In addition to the relaxation of regulatory constraints, investors are counting in particular on the introduction of strategic bitcoin reserves. They hope that the president-elect of the United States will sign important laws in the coming hours or days, paving the way for a pro-cryptocurrency policy,” comments Timo Emden, analyst at Emden Research.

The Lombard Odier bank also expects a series of decrees in the coming days and weeks. “The Trump administration’s new policies will most likely fuel financial market volatility. Investors should prepare for a period of turbulence. If the right investment drivers are present, even turbulent times can be rewarding,” assures Michael Strobaek, Chief Investment Officer.

“Knowing bitcoin’s ability to significantly improve portfolio risk-return profiles, wealth managers are now faced with a clear choice: either integrate bitcoin into multi-asset portfolios or risk falling behind within a rapidly evolving financial landscape,” said Dovile Silenskyte, director of the American asset manager Wisdomtree. Competition is expected to intensify in 2025, according to her, as customers wish to gain exposure to this powerful cryptocurrency.
