A woman was cheated out of €830,000 by men posing as Brad Pitt. The story which went viral made the actor’s agent react.
After a report from the show Seven to Eight broadcast on Sunday January 12, the story of Anne, aged around fifty, went viral. In this report, the fifty-year-old testified about a scam of which she was the victim. In fact, the woman paid 830,000 euros to scammers who posed as actor Brad Pitt. They deceived their victim using photo montages, false identity documents, but also videos generated by artificial intelligence.
Two days after the report was broadcast, Brad Pitt’s agent reacted on Tuesday January 14: “It’s awful that scammers are taking advantage of the strong connection fans have with celebrities”he regretted. This case is “an important reminder not to respond to unsolicited online messages, especially from actors who are not present on social media”he developed in comments cited by The Parisian.
“A wave of harassment” against the victim
The report showed how the crooks used the excuse of kidney cancer from the fake Brad Pitt to extract money from Anne. The woman, who filed a complaint and is hospitalized in an establishment specializing in serious depression, was mocked on social networks. The photos from the report were shared massively. Many mocked the victim’s gullibility, pushing Seven to Eight to remove the report from all its platforms. The show notably denounced “a wave of harassment against a witness” and explained that he made this decision “for the protection of victims”.
