“24% of the inhabitants of CCA (Concarneau Cornouaille agglomeration) are registered in one of the media libraries in our area”, enthused Camille le Lann, director of the media libraries, on Thursday January 9. “By comparison, 16% of French people use the library of their city or town. »
The figures therefore speak for themselves and show Cornish people’s interest in reading and culture. In total, in 2024, no fewer than 206,500 visitors entered one of CCA’s libraries. And they don’t just open them. The borrowing rate for works (novels, comics, essays, etc.) is therefore impressive. “Our subscribers borrowed 309,000 documents, and 86,000 of them were transported by the shuttle which connects the different community establishments. This service is free,” recalled Camille le Lann.
Reception of new media libraries from 2025
The cultural and educational programming of the media libraries also met with significant success throughout the year. Precisely 6,395 students came to the media library at least once. And more than 7,000 people took part in the meetings concocted by Marieke Hery, assistant in charge of programming.
This tremendous public success comes at the right time, because work on the Concarneau media library with a surface area of 1,691 m2 should begin in September 2025. The reception of the Concarneau equipment is planned for 2027, just like that of Trégunc. The Pont-Aven construction site is in progress and will be inaugurated this year.
