Comments from Bart De Wever on “community progress”: “It is not the priority”, reacts Maxime Prévot

The president of the Engagés, Maxime Prévot, showed little concern on Sunday about the remarks made the day before by the federal trainer Bart De Wever on the community, in front of the N-VA activists, gathered in Mechelen. For him, there will be no vast reform of the State. The priority will first be socio-economic.

The president of the N-VA and federal trainer Bart De Wever promised his activists on Saturday “concrete community progress” via the Arizona government that he is trying to form with the MR, Les Engagés, Vooruit and the CD&V.

His comments were seen on Sunday in part of the Landerneau media as a potential source of blocking discussions. For the president of the Engagés who participates, it is nothing.

“That the NVA evokes the institutional is not surprising. It is the opposite which would have been a scoop. I especially note that Bart De Wever spoke in moderate terms of ‘community progress’, which is very different from ‘a ‘vast reform of the State'”, commented Mr. Prévot, on the sidelines of negotiations between Arizona groups. These discussions resumed on Sunday afternoon on the subject of taxation. “The priority is and will be primarily socio-economic and budgetary. This is the crux of the issue for the future. And it is on these questions that Les Engagés are mobilizing”, he added.

Maxime Prévot also considers that “community progress” is not systematically something that occurs to the detriment of French speakers. Everything is far from functioning optimally in our State. And therefore we must be able to make it more effective without to be systematically afraid.

The president of the Engagés finally recalled that, whatever happens, without a 2/3 majority, on this level, Arizona “will not be able to make revolutionary reforms. And so much the better because, I repeat, this is not the priority”he concluded.
