“We are happy to welcome you to thank you…” Sophie Leprieur, manager of the Le Grand Balcon residence of the Little Brothers of the Poor in Cabourg (Calvados), paid tribute by welcoming them for a snack, Wednesday 8 January 2025 in the afternoon, to the dozen knitters who worked for the disadvantaged.
For several years, these knitters from the Les Loggias residence have met every Monday to design scarves and earbands which are then given to the Red Cross, which will redistribute them during marauding events throughout the year. But also small hats given to the Little Brothers of the Poor, as part of the “Little hat, good deed” operation, in partnership with the Innocent smoothie brand. If you can’t put them on your head, each little cap is used to cover the brand’s small bottles of fruit juice. “And each bottle purchased finances a portion of fruits and vegetables for meals organized by the Petits Frères des Pauvres with isolated elderly people” adds Sophie Leprieur.
Call for wool donations
In 2024, 300,387 small hats were made nationally. In Cabourg, there are 450 of them, associated with 40 headbands and scarves.
We’ve been participating for five or six years by making these scarves and little hats. It’s a nice moment with a good little group, where we stay busy, we spend some time together. We didn’t know each other before. We’re inseparable now. And we will continue.
For Colette Crieff, social affairs assistant for the City, this initiative turns out to be “a very good action, a lot of work for people in need. Moreover, we are launching an appeal for donations of wool, leftover balls, to the Pôle vie social”. The elected official from Cabourg also handed over a check for 138 euros to the Little Brothers of the Poor, a sum obtained during the last edition of Gratiferia, on November 25, 2024.
