Happy New Year to everyone! Hopefully 2025 will bring positive news regarding human rights around the world.
As the calendar has moved forward by one digit, Human Rights Watch is taking a bit of a break – at least when it comes to its publications. No, this is not a continuation of the holiday season for us. We are back, we are working hard.
But we are preparing for the launch next week of our Annual Global Report on January 16.
Each year, the organization operates as follows. Fifty weeks a year we publish reports on individual countries and particular issues, but on this date we do our big annual summary of the past year and look forward to the future.
This is a gigantic project, the culmination of several months of work. The Human Rights Watch global report covers around a hundred countries over hundreds and hundreds of pages. Almost every team in the organization is involved in writing, editing, proofreading, distributing and promoting the report. So even if you don’t see it, believe me, we are very busy.
This Daily Brief will not be produced for a few days. I’ll be back on the 16th, with news from around the world to report.
