The government of Quebec has published its population decree for 2025. We perceive a slight demographic drop in Sept-Îles and Port-Cartier. This decree is used to set government funding for certain programs.
It is developed based on censuses and forecasts from the Institut de la tourisme du Québec. The population of Sept-Îles drops to 24,373 citizens this year, or 218 fewer. Port-Cartier lost 62 individuals and brought together 6,483 inhabitants. Baie-Comeau recorded a slight increase with 20,771 people, according to this Population Decree 2025 from the Gazette Officiel du Québec.
The resident population is also decreasing in Havre-Saint-Pierre (3,371 citizens in 2025), Forestville (2,842), Fermont (2,154) and Blanc-Sablon (1,080). Even the less populous municipality of the North Shore is decreasing: Baie-Johan-Beetz goes from 79 to 78 inhabitants in the government register.
This exercise does not constitute an official census. It is mainly used for the management of government programs and the application of laws and regulations. This Population Decree 2025 of the Gazette officielle du Québec does not compile the populations of indigenous communities, the financing of which is the responsibility of the Government of Canada.
