Here are the top 20 electric car sales in 2024 in France

Even though its sales fell, the Tesla Model Y remained the best-selling electric model in last year. Helped by social leasing, the Peugeot e-208 is 2nd. The R5 is already in the top 10.

Stop for electric cars. After years of strong increases, sales fell in 2024. Last year, 290,611 examples were registered in France, a decline of 2.6%.

The results could have been worse without the success of social leasing, which represented 50,000 sales and (really) enabled more modest households to go electric. And there was not even the usual boost effect in December, because purchasing aid was reduced by surprise on December 2. Moreover, last month, registrations of electric models plunged by 21%.

If many vehicles have taken advantage of leasing to see their sales increase, it is once again the Tesla Model Y which is the king of electric sales in France. 28,576 copies were registered. But the result is down sharply, with a decline of 23%. It must be said that the SUV had an exceptional year in 2023, driven by the arrival of the Propulsion version and the drop in prices. It should relaunch in 2025 with restyling.

In 2nd position, we have the Peugeot e-208 with 23,602 sales. The Lion city car grew by 4%. It is ahead of the Renault Megane, down 4.7% to 16,800 units while Renault lowered its prices in the spring. In 4th place, we have the Fiat 500. It plunges by 33%. Its excessively high prices are a real handicap.

In 5th place, we find the Tesla Model 3, in complete disarray. Despite its restyling at the end of 2023, the sedan saw its sales collapse with -52% and 11,613 copies. The car was weighed down by the loss of the ecological bonus following the implementation of the eco-score.

The R5 already at the top, the Scénic disappoints

The 6th is the Twingo, which ended its career in style thanks to leasing, again. Then we find the highly anticipated Renault 5. Even if its deliveries have only just started, the city car is already in the top 10, with almost 10,000 registrations (9,973 precisely). She can claim the title of champion in 2025!

It is thus ahead of Renault's other major electric novelty in 2024, the Scénic. This accounted for 8,953 sales. It's a little disappointment. Renault surely expected much better, especially since it hit hard with a version eligible for the bonus offering 625 km of autonomy.

The Scénic is also closely followed by the BMW iX1, a great success of the year. The model took advantage of its “bonus” variant and an aggressive LLD offer to break through. It is hot on the heels of the Peugeot e-2008, well relaunched by leasing.

The other big news of the year is 11th. This is the Citroën ë-C3, with 8,252 units, the majority of which were delivered at the end of September as part of leasing.

In the rest of the ranking, we find two models in sharp decline due to the loss of the bonus: the MG 4 (12th) falls by 59.7%, the Dacia Spring (17th) collapses by 82.7%. The Volvo EX30 is 18th, but with deliveries largely assured before mid-February and the loss of the bonus. Since then, registrations have been at a low level!

Among the good scores, we note that of the Volkswagen ID.3, 13th with more than 7,100 sales, well boosted by various commercial offers. Also a good year for the Skoda Enyaq and the Opel Corsa. The Hyundai Kona, which kept the bonus, was down 16.9%.
