Two years after the emergence of ChatGPT in November 2022, the initial observation has not been denied: the banking sector, a large producer of data and a large consumer of technology, is a natural user of artificial intelligence (AI). However, the state of affairs is far from reflecting a revolution in uses. “We are in a phase of landing of the “hype”summarizes Mathieu Gosselin, associated with the Bartle consulting firm. The revolution is here even if it is slower than initially hoped. »

However, the use cases of AI in the sector are “countless”assures Yves Tyrode, general director of digital and payments of the BPCE group. BNP Paribas mentions 750 already in production across all professions and Société Générale, 300. The potential is therefore enormous and large-scale use has begun. But these first applications concern banking activities without direct contact with customers.

The AI is already studying real estate loan application files, in which multiple and not always standardized documents are piled up. She is also able to go through the documentation sent by a company to, for example, inventory its buildings and draw up their energy assessment.
