We all already know that the value of the minimum wage follows the evolution of inflation. However, the rate was revised downwards by INSEE recently. This makes employees wonder if the amount is likely to change in January 2025. We answer this question which arouses many curiosity in this article!

An anticipated revaluation of the minimum wage

The minimum wage in has indeed seen an anticipated increase. This increase of 2% took place on November 1st. However, traditionally, this is done every January 1st. As a reminder, this is an initiative by Michel Barnier which dates from the beginning of October!

However, you should know that this anticipation is not the result of chance. In fact, it responds directly to the formula for calculating the minimum wage. This takes into account two key factors. On the one hand, inflation measured for the 20% of households with the lowest incomes. And on the other, half the gain in purchasing power of the average hourly wage of employees.

Furthermore, we must not forget that the amount of the minimum wage may change during the year. This, provided that inflation exceeds the threshold of €2. However, currently, inflation in France has slowed. Therefore, a question arises! So what will be the impact of this slowdown on the amount of the minimum wage in January 2025?

Here's what employees should expect

Nothing changes in January 2025 regarding the amount of the minimum wage! INSEE estimates annual inflation (2023-2024) at 2%, despite the rate of 1.4% over one year in December. That said, there will be no new increase in the minimum wage this January 1st. We therefore retain the revaluation which took place in November 2024.

Concretely, the monthly minimum wage increased from 1,766.92 euros gross (1,398.69 euros net) to 1,801.80 euros gross (1,426.30 euros net). Which is equivalent to an increase of 34.88 euros gross and 27.61 euros net per month. Let us also remember that this increase impacted the Hourly minimum wage. Since November, the hourly minimum wage has increased from 11.65 euros gross (9.22 euros net) to 11.88 euros gross (9.40 euros net).

How do employees on the minimum wage receive this stability? Well, that could be perceived in a mixed way! On the one hand, the November revaluation was already a boost for purchasing power. Although minimalthis increase was welcome for some.

On the other hand, there are those who demonstrate their disappointment. Because even though inflation has slowed, the cost of living continues to increase! Maintaining the minimum wage at its November level would then be insufficient to compensate for the price increase.

The evolution of the minimum wage after 2025

Many workers are already asking questions about the future evolution of the minimum wage. Currently, the next revaluation is planned for the January 1, 2026. But as we just saw earlier, this is not a date set in stone! Indeed, it could well evolve depending on certain economic factors.
