To help MSMEs adapt to the digital revolution in Africa, 2 tech entrepreneurs have implemented a tailor-made solution. Since its launch, Leja claims over 1.4 million businesses using its platform.
Leja is a fintech solution that helps micro, small and medium-sized businesses digitize their management. It facilitates the transition from paper to digital records, and encourages the adoption of financial services. The Nairobi, Kenya-based start-up was founded in 2018 by Tekwane Mwendwa and Morgane Kablan.
“We are proud to address the challenges MSMEs face, including limited access to affordable payment options and working capital financing. Many MSMEs previously relied on costly and inconvenient methods like cash, which negatively impacted their businesses” explain Tekwane Mwendwa.
Leja also offers automated record keeping, 360-degree payment solutions and loans as services. “We plan to increase our reach from 5% to 20% by partnering with financial institutions and NGOs, to bridge the credit gap of MSMEs” he adds.
There are also monetary transaction services between its users. According to Tekwane Mwendwa, only 10% of them currently use this function. The fintech seeks to increase this figure to 50%, which it believes will unlock considerable transaction volume and revenue potential.
The solution has a mobile application accessible only on Android. A representative of the company must open an account by providing the requested data (telephone number, first and last name, national identity card number and email address), to be able to access the various services offered.
